It is hard to believe that nearly thirty years have passed. The memory etched in my mind and heart always reminds me of God’s love. It was nineteen and ninety-six. I had taken a job out of state. The assignment did not turn out the way I thought it would, but I tried to make the best of it.
Christmas day was approaching, and my six- and eleven-year-old daughters were excited to see what treasures might be under the tree that year. The girls did not know that money was scarce; sometimes barely stretching month to month.
I remember thinking how disappointed they might be on Christmas morning but to my surprise, when they saw the one small gift, smiles broke out on their beautiful faces.
I knew the small gift that I had given, in no way, compared to the gift God had given to all of us that special morning.
Angels declared His birth to the shepherds who were watching their sheep in the fields. God’s gift, His only Son, was born in Bethlehem and the angels sang, (“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased. Luke 2:14 NASB)
