Count the Cost!- Matthew 10:37 NIV)

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying “This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish it.”

(Matthew 10:37 NIV)

Can you believe the cost of food these days? While shopping at a local grocery store, I saw that a medium bag of chips was almost six dollars. The cost of food and medication is rising.

When following Jesus, I must consider what it will cost me. Many of my brothers and sisters, in other nations, are paying a high price of imprisonment or even their life for even speaking the name of Jesus.

I could face the same, as time goes on, while living in the United States. Jesus tells me if I love mother or father more than Him, I am not worthy of Him. If I love a son or daughter more than Him, I am not worthy of Him. (Matthew 10:37 NIV paraphrased)

The cost of following Christ is a decision I must make for myself. He does not force me or anyone to follow Him. He only invites us to come follow.

Be Encouraged! Jesus is worth counting the cost of losing any earthly possessions. I have learned that He faithful to His children and will not ask of me anything that He will not help me to endure.
