And now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. (Genesis 45:5 NASB)
Joseph was his father’s favorite son from his wife, Rebecca. Because he was the favorite, his ten brothers were jealous and one day they sold him for twenty pieces of silver to a caravan of men going to Egypt. They, then. led their father to believe, by showing him the dirty ripped coat that he had made for Joseph, that he must have been killed by a wild animal.
Later, when famine came to the land of Canan and the surrounding areas, Jacob, their father, sent them to buy food in Egypt where their brother, Joseph had been sold into slavery but now was the second in command to the Pharoah and in charge of the food distribution. Wow!
It is amazing to see how God takes something so wrong and turns it around for good. God knew the brothers would sell Joseph into slavery and He knew He was going to send a famine. His plan was perfect.
