Remember the Teachers
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” (John 14:26 NASB)
She smiled and waved. Her eyes twinkled as the yellow bus passed by her window. Leaning on her cane, she paused. “Seventy-five years ago, I was five”, she muttered.
She sighed as she shuffled to her chair. Laying her favorite book on her lap, she reminisced. I have had so many good teachers in my life, she thought. I remember when…….
“Oh, how I disliked kindergarten,” she whispered as if someone was listening. She chuckled. Grandmother always walked with me to school. I thought she always would. I was wrong. One day, she walked with me half-way. She said, “Now you walk the rest on your own. Hurry, so you won’t be late.”
I was scared to walk on by myself, so I followed her. Suddenly, she turned around and saw me. Standing with her hands on her hips, she paused. I thought I was sure to get a spanking, but she only scolded then grabbed my hand and off we went to school. She never grew impatient or weary with me.
My fifth-grade teacher was strict. “No gum in class!” he said. Unfortunately, I took the chance and was caught. My punishment for disobeying was to wear the big glob of shiny pink gum on my nose. It was embarrassing.
With tears trickling down her cheeks, she looked at her Bible, her favorite book. She thought of her greatest teacher, The Holy Spirit, her closest friend. She realized that all through her life, He had been teaching her. She learned about patience from her grandmother. She learned about disobedience and consequences from her fifth-grade teacher. She learned about forgiveness from Jesus, her Savior.
She wiped away her tears. Her heart was full, full of gratitude, full of joy and thankfulness. She thought, “teachers are a gift from God. I will never forget.”
