Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (NASB)
What do you do when someone pushes that button, you know, the one that sends you in a rage or totally shuts you down? It catches you off guard and you do not respond in the way Christ would have you to.
Recently, this has happened to me. Someone pushed the wrong button at the wrong time. I feel so bad about responding in such a harsh way. I have repented and I know Jesus has forgiven me, but I still feel bad. I think that is how we all should feel.
If hurting someone doesn’t make you have remorse, then how can you ask for forgiveness? Words can hurt. They can pierce the soul. Making amends is not always easy. It may take a long time for the person to even want to talk with you.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Who can tame that evil tongue? It can be a constant battle. You may praise God one minute and curse your friend the next.
Learning how to stop ourselves before we respond is crucial. God’s word says, (let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. NIV)
