I was driving home from a visit with my grandchildren when I realized that I had missed my exit and was now heading north and I was not sure where I was going. I found a vacant lot, pulled over and told my GPS to go home. Instantly a map appeared, and I was guided by the voice on my phone.
This unexpected circumstance reminded me of a time, long before smartphone technology, when I was driving in another city and was not sure how to get to my destination. I prayed and asked the Lord to lead me. All was quiet in my vehicle while I listened attentively to the Holy Spirit’s bidding for each turn. Soon I found myself exactly where I needed to be. Even though technology is helpful, I never want to forget who truly guides my path when I trust in him with all my heart.
Ester was a young girl who found herself in a place that was unlike to which she was used to. She had been summoned by the king along with all the other young virgins to the king’s Harem in which Hegai was in charge. She did not know where this journey would take her but her uncle Mordecai was praying and instructing her along the way. Sometimes we find ourselves on paths that are unfamiliar and we, in our humanness, are not sure where those paths may take us. That is when we need to pray and search God’s word for answers. He is faithful to lead us to where we need to go and when we choose the wrong path, because we think we know better, He waits until we are ready to listen and obey and then the gentle Shepherd, once again, leads us along our journey one step at a time.
